Bradley County Medical Board Monthly Meeting


The Bradley County Medical  Center  Board meet October 24th at the Brunson Complex.  Vice Chairman Lathan Hairston presided. The board approved the minutes of the previous meeting and Brandon Gorman provided the monthly financial reports.  He informed the members that the hospital experienced a net loss of $210,845.00 for September. Overall the hospital remains in good shape.

Dr. Joe H. Wharton, a board member, recommended the following staff appointments:
                F. Keith Bell, M. D., Radiology
                Douglas Elliott, M. D., Radiology
                Aaron Janos, M. D., Radiology
                Christie Phelan, M. D.,  Radiology
                Shane Tharp, M. D., Radiology
All five were approved by the board.


Administrator Rex Jones reported to the board on several matters. He told them that all hospital employees are being required to take flue shots. He also told them he was visiting with all venders to seek ways to save money and improve service. Mr. Jones talked about doing a better job of collecting prior to turning bills over to a collection agency and he reported on the contractor that provides rehabilitation treatment.

The board agreed to submit the ISERP retirement plan to the board's personnel committee for study.  This plan affects highly compensated employees only.

Dr. Wharton reported on a meeting between board  members and the Medical Staff to discuss hospital issues and concerns of the  doctors.  He said it went well and should be continued.

Administrator Rex Jones and the board talked about declining revenues in the Home Health Care program and efforts to get it increasing again.. In the past the program has been more profitable. Mr. Jones thinks it needs to be marketed better.

The next board meeting is set for November 25th at the Hospital.
