The Bradley County Single Parent Scholarship Fund held a reception Tuesday afternoon in the board room of the Bradley County Economic Development Commission where they awarded $2500.00 in scholarship money to Bradley County single parents.

Selena Juardo was awarded the Entergy Grant/Scholarship.  Others receiving scholarship awards were Katrina Saunders, Contessa Williams, and Dominique Ashford.

In order to be eligible for a Single Parent Scholarship, recipients must be:
A resident of Bradley County, Arkansas,
Single Head of Household, male or female, with custody of a minor child under the age of 18,
A high school graduate or have obtained a GED,
Pursuing an undergraduate course of study at a vocational or 2- or 4-year institution,

Must not have obtained a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent number of hours with the exception of a continuance towards a Master’s of Arts degree in Teaching.

The Bradley County Single Parent Scholarship Fund began in 1991 as an affiliate of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship.  Statistics show that over 1000 Bradley County single parent homes have an income of less than $10,000 per year.  Of the single parents in the county 25 years old and up, only 19.7% of them never receive a high school diploma or an equivalency degree.  The last census shows that 8.4% of Bradley County residents are single parents.

Since its inception, Bradley County Single Parent Scholarship Fund has awarded 137 scholarships valued at over $68,000.  The scholarships are not government funded.  Each county raises funds and receives matching funds.

Board members for the Bradley County Single Parent Scholarship are Bob Milton, Marsha Cooper, Beverly Chapple, Gina Woodard, Marilyn Johnson, Tammy Poole, Fran VanDerZwalm, and Patricia Wilkinson.

The reception was attended by family and friends of the recipients.
