Arbor Day to be Held Friday

The annual Arbor Day Celebration, hosted by GFWC Warren Woman's Club, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 25.  The event will be held at Meditation Point which is adjacent to Warren City Park and the old train depot on West Cedar Street.

Warren Woman's Club president, Diane Fowler, will welcome guests and the invocation will be given by the Reverend Philip Faris of First Presbyterian Church in Warren.  Warren High School ROTC will present the colors and  the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Bradley County Veterans.  Music will be provided by Warren ABC Preschool.  Mayor Brian Martin and Bradley County Judge Keith Neely will be among the honored guests attending the celebration and included in the program.

Bob Baker, County Forester for Bradley and Calhoun Counties, will be present with Smokey the Bear.  Rickey O'Neill from Potlatch Corporation will distribute improved loblolly pine seedlings donated by Potlatch Corporation to attendees.  "Plant Trees for America" brochure from the Arbor Day Foundation will be distributed to provide instructions for tree planting.

Trees chosen for planting are the Heritage Birch to provide shade, and the Showtime Crabapple to provide beautiful color in spring with pink blooms and in summer with red leaves.  These trees at Meditation Point will enhance the improvements being made to the old train depot and the City Park.  Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role trees play in our lives and promotes tree planting and care.

Warren Woman's Club members are dedicated to the conservation of our natural resources, protecting the environment and encouraging others to help make our community a better place to live. For additional information, contact Diane Purvis, Conservation Chairman.
