Tappe will serve as chair for a two-year term beginning in July and will also serve on the NAUFRP’s executive committee.
“This is a wonderful honor for Dr. Tappe,” said Dr. Jimmie Yeiser, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “It’s speaks to his leadership of the forest resources program at UAM and the esteem with which he is held in the forest resources community nationwide.”
Tappe has served as dean of the School of Forest Resources, Arkansas’ only school of forestry, and director of the Arkansas Forest Resources Center since 2011. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Ph.D. from Clemson University.
The NAUFRP was founded in 1981 to advance the “science, practice and art of forest resource management by supporting university-based natural resource education, research, extension and international programs,” according to the organization’s website. The NAUFRP represents 80 colleges and universities and their respective forest resource administrators, scientists, educators and extension specialists. The association works on university-level forest resources issues through relationships and partnerships with federal government agencies, elected officials, non-governmental organizations, forest industry groups, and education and scientific organizations.
The NAUFRP’s southern region includes forest resources programs at 27 southern universities, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
