Health Department Director Visits Warren

Dr. Nathaniel Smith,M. D., the Director of the Arkansas Department of Health, was in Warren Friday August 15th to pay a visit to the Bradley County Health Department on Bragg Street.  Traveling with Dr. Smith was Dena Poteat theSoutheast Regional Director, who oversees 14 counties in south Arkansas and Jill Bayles the Director of Public Health Marketing for the Department.  They visited with local Administrator R. Alicia Outlaw, R.N.  The purpose of the visit was to check on programs and facilities in Bradley County and to see first hand the services being provided to improve health in the area.  Dr. Smith and his staff meet the local press and discussed the mission of the health Department.

The Bradley County Health Unit provides more than 800 women's health visits per year, inspects food service establishments, test water for public water systems and swimming pools, investigates diseases, provides preventive health services such as immunizations and vaccinations and inspects hospitals.  In-Home care is also provided for the elderly and others with serious medical conditions.

Other areas of concern for the department include obesity, tobacco use, dental needs, lack of health insurance and a variety of other health related needs. During Dr. Smith's visit the Unit was busy providing services to a large number of families.
