The Hermitage Board of Education met in regular session Monday, September 9, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the boardroom. The following board members were present; Russell Richard, Daniel Haigwood, Harold Hampton, Gary Vines, Mary Hamilton, Kevin Reep, and Dorothy Davis. Others present were Dr. Tucker, Supt., Vicky McDougald, Elementary Principal, Greg and Joanie Mauldin, Mrs. Brandye McCue, Charles Thomas, Betty Carroll, Houston Blankinship, Nettie Davis, Greg Reep.
The minutes from the August 11, 2014 meeting were read. The motion to approve was by Harold Hampton. The second was by Gary Vines. The motion passed 7-0.
The financial report was reviewed. The motion to accept this report and pay bills was made by Mary Hamilton. The second was by Kevin Reep. The motion passed 7-0.
Dr. Tucker gave the Superintendent’s Report.
The motion to accept the Academic Standards and Curriulum Frameworks approved by the State Board of Education was by Kevin Reep. The second was by Gary Vines. Motion passed 7-0.
A motion was made by Daniel Haigwood for the authorization of Electronic Transfer Funds. The second was by Dorothy Davis. The motion passed 7-0.
The Bids for custodial supplies were reviewed. The motion to accept the bid from G & K Services was by Kevin Reep. (Purchase others supplies needed from Port City) The second was by Gary Vines. The motion passed 7-0.
Bids were opened for the buses. The only bids was from Kenneth Thompson for $1,051.00 bus one and $1,051.00 for bus two. Total $3,152.00. These bids were rejected.
Bids were opened for the three (3) school properties. Bids were for:

The recommendation was made to accept the high bid on all properties and reject the bus bids. The motion to accept these bids was made by Kevin. The second was by Gary Vines. The motion passed 7-0.
Dr. Tucker discussed repairing, stripping, and resurfacing the gym floor. The estimated cost would be $15,000.00 or $14,650.00 if we can get a September date. Dr. Tucker made the recommendation to use Gym Master. The motion to accept the recommendation was made by Kevin Reep. The second was by Daniel Haigwood. The motion passed 7-0.
Recommendation from Dr. Tucker to use Option C for Background checks on volunteers. The motion to accept was made by Kevin Reep. The second was by Gary Vines. The motion passed. 7- 0.
The motion to approve the 21st CCLC After School Handbook for 2014-2015 was made by Harold Hampton. The second was by Dorothy Davis. The motion passed 7-0.
The changes to the Pre-K handbook were discussed. The motion to accept these (2) changes was made by Daniel Haigwood. The second was by Harold Hampton. The motion passed 7-0.
The Board went into Executive Session to discuss Personnel. The Board came out of Executive Session.
A recommendation was made by Dr. Tucker to hire Larry Watson as a long term Sub., pending approval by ADE. The motion to accept this recommendation was made by Harold Hampton. The second was by Kevin Reep. The motion passed 7-0.
