City Of Warren Aviation Commission Meeting

The Warren Aviation Commission meet September 25th in the Warren Municipal Courtroom.
Four of the five commissioners were present.  The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the flight check of the new PAPI system by the FAA and a plan by Verizon to build a new tower 170 feet high in the Warren Area.

Mayor Bryan Martin informed the Commission that the city has requested a flight check by the FAA, but has not received a date for the inspection.  PAPI stands for "precision approach path indicator" and is a device that helps land airplanes safer.  This is a major upgrade to the Warren Airport.

The Commissioners discussed the proposed tower and based upon a determination by the FAA of "no hazard to air navigation" the Commission voted to approve the tower location and will notify the Warren Planning Commission.  Any structure with substantial height near the airport flight patterns must be reviewed by the Aviation Commission.

The Warren Aviation Commission consist of five citizens nominated by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.  The present commission is made up of Curtis Blankinship,Jr., H. Murray Claycomb, Raymond Colen,  John B. Frazer, Jr. and Dr. Joe H. Wharton.  The Mayor oversees the maintenance and daily operations of the city airport and the Commission sets policies and recommends city expenditures.  The Commission also applies for grants and oversees construction projects.
