The Arkansas Public School Resource Center is pleased to announce that Warren Middle School and Brunson New Vision Charter School are recipients of the APSRC eResources Digital Learning Grant. 30 districts were chosen to receive funds to provide digital coursework to students. A total of $358,000 will be distributed.
After the passage of Act 1280, districts have been working to offer digital learning opportunities to their students. As part of this effort, APSRC created the eResources Digital Learning Portal on its website. Through membership in APSRC, this online portal provides an opportunity for middle and high school students in Arkansas to enroll in high-quality digital courses at a reduced rate of cost. Completed courses can be used for general credit, credit recover, or Advanced Placement credit. Students may enroll in these courses for the 2015 Spring Semester.
The eResources Digital Learning grant covers the cost of those courses for students in the chosen districts. This grant opportunity is available through a partnership with the Walton Family Foundation. Districts were required to complete an application and implementation plan in their request for the grant money. Chosen districts were selected through a rigorous grants process which evaluated each application. "We were impressed with the quality of the grant applications we saw," said APSRC Executive Director Scott Smith.
Smith continued, "It is clear to us that digital learning has become a focus for many of our districts across the state, particularly those in rural areas. They see the opportunity for rigorous learning utilizing technology. We're pleased to be able to partner with districts to provide the learning style to students across Arkansas."
Districts chosen to recive the grant will be required to participate and present in a "Best Practices" Conference hosted by APSRC in order to share their successes and allow other districts the opportunity to learn from them. An additional round of funding will be available next year.
The two schools will work together to provide a digital Spanish Class to approximately 20 students who will study Spanish through 48 lessons. The schools are currently working to develop a digital learning policy.
