Hospital Board Hears From Maintenance Supervisor


The Bradley County Medical Center Board was briefed by Keith Wright, Maintenance Supervisor for the hospital, during their monthly meeting January 22nd.  Mr. Wright presented the annual safety report and then provided information to the board about his qualifications, the maintenance staff and the work they are capable of doing.  He informed the members he has been employed by the hospital for about 18 years and is a master electrician, and has a license to work on heating and air conditioning units.  On the maintenance staff is a master plumber, and a very skilled carpenter.  The staff can repair all appliances.  Mr. Wright told the board that the hospital has passed all inspections with a clean bill of health.  He also told them the hospital consist of 133,400 square feet of space.

Brandon Gorman then provided a detailed financial report.  He said the hospital had a net loss of $133,383 in December,2014 and accounts receivable are up.  Use of the hospital has shown an increase and in many ways the revenue is up.  Mr. Gorman indicated that the biggest issue is getting revenue in timely and a serious effort is underway to improve the process.. He stated progress is being made.  He also provided information on Home Health Care and sales tax receipts.

On a motion by Dr. Wharton, the board approved 24 Doctors and medical staff for appointments to serve Bradley County Medical Center.  A large number will practice telemedicine.  Dr. Kerry Pennington was reappointed to January of 2017.  Any medical personnel utilizing the hospital must be approved by the board for specific time periods.  They must be reappointed periodically.

Rex Jones gave an executive update and Tiffany Holland reported on the nursing department.  Mr. Jones  reported that all employees were given flu shots and the hospital was paid $2500 by the Hospital Association for making it mandatory.  He also informed the board of personnel changes.  Mr. Jones reported that a doctor from Monticello is doing some procedures at Bradley County Medical Center and Dr. Schock an orthopedist is going to start doing minor surgery here.

The board was informed that property insurance was renewed at a cost of $59,000.00 for the year.  The insurance was bid out and the cost was about $1000 more than the past year.

The board then went into executive session and reported that they conducted a personnel evaluation.
