Mayor Martin Speaks To Genealogy Group

Mayor Martin points out plans for the shooting range which is nearing completion.

The Bradley County Genealogy Society meet for their monthly meeting Sunday March 29th at the Bradley County Veterans Museum.  Speaker for the meeting was Warren Mayor Bryan Martin.  He reported to those in attendance about several city projects underway that are historically significant.

Mayor Martin talked about improvements that have been made to the city park on Martin Street and the enlargement of the park when the city purchased the Martin Estate property that is located between the original park and the Railroad Depot.  The park itself is historical and the Mayor talked about improvements that have been made and plans for additional improvements including adult exercise equipment.  He discussed the fact that the city is working with the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce to renovate and utilize the Railroad Depot, which is on the historic register.  Restoration of the historic locomotive in the park has been a major success.

Other projects the Mayor discussed included construction of the shooting range, work to expand water and sewer on the northeast bypass, the remodeling of the City Emergency Services Center and the purchase of new fire and rescue equipment.

The Mayor explained the procedures legally required for the city to force the removal or repair of dilapidated houses and buildings.  He stated the city has ordered many torn down or repaired and continues to do do.  He said two more are being bid out for removal at this time.  One is on North Bradley Road and one on N. Myrtle Street.  Every effort is made to get owners to repair property if feasible.

Relating to historic property, the Mayor told the group that Axley Field, the longtime home of the Lumberjack Football Team, will be renovated as a soccer field to be used by the school district, the city and the public.  The work will be funded by a grant and local funds.  The project is a joint venture between the City of Warren and Warren School District.

Mayor Martin informed the Society that the Warren economy is growing and he is upbeat about the future.  He told them the timber industry is doing much better and the addition of Ozark Mountain Poultry is creating new job opportunities.  According to the Mayor the Warren City Council has been very supportive of all the projects and endeavors he talked about.
