Genealogy Society Hears Program On Museum

A program on the history and future of the Bradley County Historical Museum was presented to the Genealogy Society Sunday afternoon April 26th.  The presentation was made by Janelle Lipton.  She told those in attendance that the original idea of trying to maintain Bradley County's history can be traced back to the late Noma Watkins.  A historical display was placed in the county building east of the Courthouse and in 1989 the John Wilson Martin House on Ash Street was purchased and became the permanent home to the museum.

Mrs. Lipton stated the purpose of the museum is to preserve the history of the county.  The museum is operated on donations and annual fund raisers such as hamburger suppers, spaghetti suppers and the tour of homes event each year.  She indicated the board has long range plans to further improve the building and add new facilities to house historical artifacts.

The public was urged to become a member of the Bradley County historical Museum Association to help maintain and improve the museum.  All monetary  gifts are tax deductable.  The following levels of giving are available:
Individual-$25.00
Family-$50.00
Patron-$100.00
