Randall Herring Set To Retire As YMCA Executive Director

Randall Herring

For some 37 years Randall Herring has been involved with the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County as a board member or Executive Director.  If you count the years he belonged to the Y as a member, he has spent the vast portion of his life either utilizing the organization or helping manage it.  It has been and will remain a huge part of his life.

Mr. Herring literally grew up taking part of activities at the Y.  He told salineriverchronicle.com that he thought he started swimming at the Y around age 8 and continued to take part in programs there throughout his growing up years.  After graduating from Warren High School in 1966 he attended Arkansas A & M and received his degree in 1970.  After serving in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years he returned to Warren and worked for Potlatch for 33 years, all the while using and serving the YMCA.  Upon retirement from Potlatch he was asked to serve as interim Director and ended up being named Director and working in that capacity for six years.  He plans to retire by September 1, 2015 depending on how fast the board hires a new Executive Director.

Randall Herring is 67.  He is married to Rhonda, who is also a native of Warren and he has two grown children, Dr. John Herring and daughter Kristy.  The Herring's have nine grandchildren ages 6-17.

According to Mr. Herring the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County currently has around 1200 members and completed a solid 2014 financially.  He stated the organization raises about $60,000.00 annually to help operate the Y and to keep program fees and membership cost within reason and affordable.  Some $10,000.00 of the $60,000.00 comes form people outside of the community.  Most have roots in the Warren area.

The Y was founded in 1918 by the "Council of 22" a group of citizens and businessmen who saw the need for youth and recreational programs with an emphasis on Faith.  The Y was chartered in 1920 and is now 95 years old.  It burned in 1944 and was rebuilt.  It has been upgraded and renovated several times but the most significant was in 2006 when the Donald W. Reynolds foundation made a large contribution to be used along with other substantial contributions to rebuild, upgrade and expand the YMCA.  It was then renamed the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA of Warren and Bradley County.

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Executive Director.  To apply, do so on line at: http://www.ymca.net/career-opportunities/

The YMCA of the USA will take and review applications and the local board will make the final decision and hire the new Director.
