Senior Center Welcomes Big Crowd

The Warren Senior Center located on North Etheridge Street serves senior citizens every week Monday through Friday.  Those who attend take part in programs, excercise, play games to stimulate the mind and enjoy a noon meal.  Primarily they fellowship with each other.  It provides our retired residents an opportunity to get out of their homes and be with other people.  For those who qualify, transportation is provided to and from the Center.

The City of Warren owns the building and it is operated by the "Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas."  The agency provides an number of services for the elderly population.  Shirley Thompson is the director of the center.

On hand Tuesday were a number of speakers to address the attendees.  Mayor Bryan Martin welcomed everyone present and thanked those who attend the program and the staff who operate the Center.  He pledged his full support to the community's senior citizens and the Warren Center.

Also addressing the group were Diane Parnell who spoke on the need to excercise, Diane Fowler who talked about good nutrition, Julie King with Walgreens who urged the attendees to use medications properly, Ashley Grider with Chapel Woods Health and Rehabilitation who informed the group about Chapel Woods' programs for rehabilitation and individuals with memory loss and Amber Clark a nurse with Area Agency who provided a blood pressure check for all present.  Also addressing the group was Cathy Moseley with the Area Agency and Selton Savage was in attendance with Rev. Wayman Mann who talked about the devotionals given weekly.  R. Gregg Reep with salineriverchronicle.com and a former Mayor of Warren talked about the history of the Center and urged those who attend to invite other seniors to take part.
