Quorum Court Holds July Meeting

The Bradley County Quorum Court met Monday, July 20 for their regular monthly meeting.  After approving all the regular monthly reports, Judge Neely reported on the construction at the courthouse and told them about the time capsule from 1903 that was found behind the cornerstone.

He further reported on plans to let bids for resurfacing of county road 33, the Prattsville Road.  He also indicated that the county is still waiting on a number of federally funded projects due to the lack of federal highway bill.  Judge Neely informed the court that recent inspections on the county landfill have been good.

The Quorum Court approved authorization to purchase a new vehicle for the Sheriff's Department. They authorized a maximum expenditure of $30,000 and granted the Judge the option to finance a portion of the cost if he determines it necessary.  The Sheriff will be allowed to decide whether to use the state contract or to bid out the car.

Judge Neely also informed the court that four counties in Southeast Arkansas, including Bradley, are working on forming a district to construct a new jail.  He told the court there was lots of work yet to be done and decisions to be made.
