Quorum Court Approves Purchases Of Equipment

During the August 17th monthly Quorum Court meeting the Bradley County Justices approved the purchase of two items of equipment.  They voted to buy a used truck and dump trailer at an estimated cost of $160,000.00.  The Court also agreed to buy two new garbage compaction boxes at a price of around $8500.00 each.  In the case of the truck and dump trailer the Justices approved granting  the County Judge the authority to purchase the equipment at a cost not to exceed $160,000.00  with no requirement to come back to the Court for further action.  The same was approved for the garbage boxes with approval to spend up to $18,000.00 without further Court action.  Judge Neely indicated the county had available cash to make the purchases.  He also stated the county had recently sold surplus equipment at auction and revenue from the sale will help with the expenses.

During the discussion, JP Eddie Parnell asked about the ability to cover the cost.  He stated that in the not too distant past the county had been in a very tight fiscal condition.  Judge Neely responded that the road fund and solid waste fund would be utilized to make these purchases and that both could currently handle the expense.

Regular reports were presented to the Court and Judge Neely reported that the county had been notified that funds were made available by the state to replace a bridge on County Road 18 W.  He said the total project will cost $87,710.00 and the county will receive $43,855.00 in grant funds from the state.

The County Judge updated the members on the courthouse repair work and told them about the time capsule that was discovered from 1903.
