UAM Narrows Chancellor’s Search To Two Finalists

           MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello has narrowed its search for a new chancellor to two candidates, according to Mary Whiting, director of admissions and chair of the campus search committee.
            The finalists are Dr. Ty Handy, president of Northwest Florida State College inNiceville, Fla., and Dr. Karla Hughes, executive vice president and provost of the University of Louisiana System in Baton Rouge. Both candidates will visit the UAM campus in September. Dates will be announced later, according to Whiting.
            UAM has been without a chancellor since Jack Lassiter retired January 5. Lassiter became UAM’s 11th chief executive officer on July 1, 2004. Jay Jones, vice chancellor for finance and administration, has been serving as interim chancellor.
            The finalists were selected from a pool of eight applicants. Those not selected as finalists were:
            • Dr. Thomas Corti, vice president for student affairs at Farmingdale State College of the State University of New York in Farmingdale, N.Y.;
            • Dr. Michel Delorme, associate dean for graduate and undergraduate studies and faculty at ESDES, the business school of Universite` Catholique de Lyon in Lyon, France;
            • Dr. Jacquelyn Elliott, president of North Arkansas College in Harrison;
            • Dr. Malcomb Frisbie, professor of biological sciences at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky.;
            • Jay Jones, UAM’s interim chancellor;
            • Ashley Scott, a blogger on The 50 Co-op.
