Warren Native Sworn in as United States Magistrate

A large crowd, including a contingent of Warrenites, were present October 2nd at the Richard Sheppard Arnold Federal Courthouse in Little Rock for the investiture of The Honorable Patricia S. Harris as United States Magistrate Judge.  The event took placed in the Judge Moody Courtroom.

Judge Harris is a graduate of Warren High School who went on to the Bowen School of Law and has practiced private law and served as an assistant United States Attorney.  She will serve as a Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

All the Judges of the Eastern District were present. The Colors were presented by the Quapaw Area Council Boy Scouts of America led by Scott Harris, son of Judge Harris.  The invocation was given by the Rev. Dari Rowen former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren.  Opening remarks were made by Edwin L. Lowther,Jr.  Other speakers included The Honorable James M. Moody and Jane W. Duke.  The oath was administered by The Honorable James M. Moody, Jr.  Judge Harris then spoke expressing her appreciation to all in attendance and all who helped her reach the position of Magistrate Judge.

The colors were then retired and a reception was held in the atrium of the Courthouse.

Some of the individuals attending from Warren included: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Covin, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cross, Mr. and Mrs. Don McWilliams, Mr. and Mrs. Scott White, Mayor Bryan and Dr. Sue Martin, R. Gregg Reep, and former Warren residents Hunter Johnson, Randi Henley, Suzanne Rotton O'Donnel, and Mr. and Mrs. Tim Spraggins.

Judge Harris spoke of her father. who died when she was one and Robert Newton, her step father whom she said never treated her any way but as a daughter.  She thanked her mother Mrs. Pat Newton and her three sisters, Lisa Sievers, Hope Cain, and Carrie Johnson, as well as the Wright Law Firm and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the role the all played in her career.  She also acknowleged her husband, Jim Harris and their son Scott.
