Historic Hwy. 35 Junk Hunt Set for March 3-5

The first “Historic Hwy. 35 Junk Hunt”, a 3-day, 124-mile, multi-county yard sale extending from Dermott in Chicot County, through Monticello in Drew County, Rison in Cleveland County, Sheridan in Grant County and Benton in Saline County, will be held March 3-5.

The “junk hunt” is a highway-long yard sale, like Bargains Galore on 64, 160-miles of yard sales, flea markets and antique dealers along Highway 64 from Fort Smith to Beebe.

The hope is for this to be a successful endeavor, in hopes this will become an annual event as well as educating travelers — coming to ‘junk’ — what our counties have to offer as far as businesses and tourist attractions, such as area museums and landmarks.

Beginning at Dermott, the route runs along Highway 35 to Monticello where it continues through the downtown district before hitting Highway 425. It then runs north on 425 to Highway 35 where it continues to Highway 63, to Pansy, and back to Highway 35 through Herbine and on to Rison to the Pioneer Village (off Highway 35). It continues through Staves and Grapevine to the intersection of highways 35 and 167. At the intersection, it continues right onto 167 N. and takes 167 B (not the new bypass), continuing to the second traffic light (the main intersection in Sheridan). At the traffic light, the route continues left onto Highway 270 (Center Street), which runs to the Sheridan downtown district and courthouse square, then continues right at the traffic light onto Oak Street, then to Vine Street, and left on Vine, before returning to Highway 35 and continuing to Benton.

Those who are interested in participating but do not have a place along the route to set up and sell their “junk” may do so at the event’s “hub”, The Pioneer Village in Rison, located at the old fairgrounds just off Highway 35. The cost for booth space (indoor and outdoor) at The Pioneer Village is $10 a day.
