Juneteenth Big Event In Wilmar

The parade is a highlight of the Juneteenth celebration each year.
Every year the people of Wilmar spearhead a celebration of June, 19th in honor of the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, the document signed by the nation's 16th President Abraham Lincoln freeing slaves.  The celebration  draws a huge crowd and has a festival-type atmosphere.  A number of events occur over a several-day time period.

Saturday a parade was held.  It consisted of pageant winners, four wheelers, trucks, horses and people running for elected office.  It was a large parade, and a great crowd was present. Many booths were set up selling merchandise and food.  There was a lot of music.

The parade route is lined with patrons and booths.

Political Candidates Campaign for votes during the celebration.

Wilmar Mayor Curly Jackson works to make the Juneteenth Celebration a Success.
