MONTICELLO, AR — The master’s degree programs in education and creative writing at the University of Arkansas at Monticello have been ranked among the nation’s 10 best values for online master’s degree programs by two online clearinghouses for prospective master’s and doctoral students.
UAM’s master of education degree program was ranked ninth nationally by GradSource.com while the master of fine arts program was ranked ninth nationally by GreatCollegeDeals.com as of the best online and low residency master’s degree programs nationwide.
“This is wonderful news for both our education and creative writing programs,” said UAM Chancellor Karla Hughes. “I continue to be so proud of the academic quality of this institution. This speaks volumes about the efforts of our faculty to deliver programs equal to or better than those found at colleges and universities across the country.”
According to GradSource.com, its rankings are based on a number of factors, including affordability, flexibility and helping students secure employment following completion of a degree. GreatCollegeDelas.com ranks creative writing programs based on comprehensive curriculum in writing skill development, a student-author mentorship program, recognition from academic publications, successful alumni, published faculty, advanced technology in a virtual environment, and accessible financial aid options.
“Our master of fine arts program in creative writing is a collaborative effort of faculty and students and I want to congratulate them on achieving national recognition,” said Mark Spencer, head of the UAM School of Arts and Humanities. “This type of recognition doesn’t happen by accident. It is the result of much hard work.”
Dr. Peggy Doss, dean of the School of Education and interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, called the ranking for the M.Ed. program “validation for the extraordinary efforts of our faculty to meet or exceed the quality of programs at our peer institutions.”
