Community Action Conducts Board Meeting

A quorum of the Southeast Arkansas Community Action Board of Directors meet Tuesday, November 15th at the agency headquarters in Warren.  The board was provided updates on all agency programs and they reviewed the financial report.  The interim executive Director also went over activities and answered questions.

During the public comment period, Ms. Alice Love of Desha County asked about competition between the Community Action Head Start program and other nonprofit providers located within the five counties of southeast Arkansas.  There are members of the board that work for at least one of the nonprofits.  Mr. Al Dixon, Chairman of the Southeast Community Action Board, who also works for another nonprofit, took to the floor to explain that there is no competition between the organizations.  He went into detail on the type needs served by the different groups.  Ms. Love thanked him for educating her on the matter.

Ms. Love asked for copies of the various reports reviewed by the board and was told she could have a copy of each one.  Mr. Darryl Johnson spoke concerning his continued concerns over what he believes to be past violations of policy and the need to make the minutes accurate and properly select the board members.  The state has informed salineriverchronicle.com that they consider all current board members to be legally selected.

The board meetings have seemed to improve in organization and operation.  The members attending have become more engaged by asking questions and asserting board authority.

It was further reported that the most current agency audit will be presented at the December, 2016 board meeting.
