BCIDC Contributes to Literacy Project

The Bradley County Industrial Development Commission Board met at 5:30 p.m. in the BCIDC Office on North Myrtle Street for their regular monthly meeting for the month of August.  After approving the July financial statement, the board learned of the resignation of board member Lynette Vines.

Under new business, the board discussed joining numerous websites but took no action.

Carlton Davis, on behalf of the Warren Rotary Club, presented a literacy project which originated from the Dollywood Foundation.  The project involves the foundation selecting and mailing an age-appropriate book each month to enrolees from birth to the 5th birthday to improve literacy and increase parental reading to children.  It was explained that the Rotary Club does not have sufficient funds to pay the entire cost, approximately $27.00 per child per year, and is currently soliciting community organizations.  The BCIDC board voted to contributed $5000.00 to the project.  These funds will come from the BCIDC membership fund which is not part of the tax money paid by Warren patrons.

The board moved into executive session to discuss the vacancy in the secretary's office.
