2013: A Year of Youth & Community Empowerment for First Baptist Church, Hermitage


First Baptist Church, Hermitage, under the leadership of Pastor Michael Lambert and the First Baptist Church Youth Empowerment Committee (Mr. Lee Campbell, Committee Chairperson; Mr. Ramondo Grubbs, Committee Finance Director; and Dr. Pretrescia Walker, Empowerment Coordinator), are pleased to recognize several youth and community empowerment events in 2013.

June 2013 First Baptist Church held the First Annual Youth Empowerment & Academic Excellence Symposium ( an annual event that will be held to recognize the talents, accomplishments, and leadership of the Hermitage Community). Some of the guest speakers included the following individuals: Mrs. Angela Russell (Center Director/Teacher of Hermitage Head Start Program),  Miss Katlyn Walker (Freshman at Pulaski Academy, Little Rock, Arkansas), Mr. Greg Freeman (Police Officer, Hermitage Arkansas), Mr. Lee Campbell (Owner/Director Campbell’s Martial Arts Institute), Mr. Ramondo Grubbs, Dr. Pretrescia Walker (Co-Owner Walker Internal Medicine Clinic, PA, Little Rock, Arkansas), Bishop Larry Hines (Pastor, New Light Southern Baptist Church, Hermitage, Arkansas), Rev. Michael Lambert, and a Tai Chi Kung Fu Fan presentation by Genesis Garay (6th grader, Hermitage Elementary School).


July 2013 First Baptist Church traveled to SeaWorld San Antonio for a first-time youth trip to Texas. There were a total of 55 youth and community individuals whoattended. The group traveled via chartered tour bus (Trinity Tours) from First Baptist Church, Hermitage to San Antonio, Texas for a 2 ½ day stay at the Crowne Plaza on the famous San Antonio River Walk. This trip provided historical and educational domains of learning to all who traveled on the youth trip. Among those who traveled with First Baptist Church, included the following individuals: Lee Campbell, Minnie Campbell, LaTaesha Grubbs, Synia Grubbs, Ramondo Grubbs, Pretrescia Walker, Katlyn Walker, Gia Phillips, Trinity Grubbs, McKenzie Shaw, Claudia Phillips, Amber O’Tey, LaSommer Henderson, Ethan Shaw, Jose Garay, Samual Garay, Antonio Bautista, Joseph Garay,  Angela Ramirez, Genesis Garay, Eden Garay, Nanci Bautista, Rev. Michael Lambert, Debbie Lambert, Anthony Lambert, Chris Lambert, Betty Leonard, Miakayla Goodson, Destiny Hampton, Kaelyn Miller, Ashley Edington, Alayiah Strong, Markel Brown, Mon Hudson, Deonte Davis, Tyricus Davis, Latoya Avery, Audrienna Avery, Deriuna Avery, Abrian Bautista, Kayla Jackson, Tramond Miller, Kalyiah Miller, Tralon Miller, Crystal Island, Deja Murphy child, Christian Island, Teresa Smith, Lee Smith, Jr., Patricia Grubbs, Gussie Thomas, Mattie Sue Neal, Montei Neal, Bonnie Neal, Arnesha Edington, and Jamie Coulter.

First Baptist Church, Hermitage also hosted two Gospel Musical programs at which The Golden Stars from Johnsville, Arkansas (June 2013) and The Wings of Joy from Fordyce, Arkansas (November 2013) performed soul-stirring, uplifting musical performances.

The first annual Fall Youth Revival was also held at First Baptist Church, Hermitage November 4-6, 2013, during which Rev. Sharod Ricks was the guest Revivalist. The theme for the Revival was “Affirming the Power & Potential of Our Youth through Positivity & Praise.” First Baptist Church is very thankful for all of the support received during this revival from the community. In addition to the dynamic gospel preaching, First Baptist Church also recognizes several other individuals who participated in the spiritually uplifting, empowering revival. These individuals included Mr. Lee Campbell, Mrs. Minnie Campbell, Mr. Lee Smith, Mr. Ramondo Grubbs,      Dr. Pretrescia Walker, Mrs. Theresa Smith, New Light Southern Baptist Church Choir (Bishop Larry Hines, Pastor), Mrs. Latoya Avery, Miss Audrienna Avery, Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir (Rev. Arlin Carson, Pastor), and Elder Joyce Trotter-Hampton.

Saturday December 7, 2013 was truly historical day for the City of Hermitage and First Baptist Church, Hermitage; during which the first annual “Spirit of Christmas” 5-K Run was held (beginning at The Hermitage Community Center). This momentous, historical, exhilarating event represented an empowering feat of unity, vision, health, and wellness for the Hermitage community. Tis the season to be thankful for all of the Blessings that God has bestowed upon the First Baptist Church family and the entire Bradley County community.

Participants/Runners in the 5-K Run included the following individuals: Susan Myers, Joseph Myers, Jose Garay, Genesis Garay, Eden Garay, Joseph Garay, Sem Garay, and Angela Ramirez. The overall winners were Jose Garay (1st Place), Angela Ramirez (2nd Place), and Susan Myers (3rd place) in the adult category. The winners in the children’s category were Genesis Garay (1st place), Eden Garay (2nd Place), and Joseph Garay (3rd place).

The 5-K support staff included the following individuals: Mr. Jim Gardner (Bradley County Deputy Sheriff), Mr. Pete Johnson (EMT), Mr. Lee Campbell, Mrs. Minnie Campbell, Mrs. Latoya Avery, Mr. Jettie Childs, Mr. Troy McNeice, and Dr. Pretrescia Walker.

The First Baptist Church Youth & Community Empowerment Committee (Mr. Lee Campbell, Mr. Ramondo Grubbs, and Dr. Pretrescia Walker) would like to thank all 5-K participants, support staff, and the City of Hermitage Administrative Department for all of their support in making this event a success.
