Mistrial Declared in Local Burglary Case

A mistrial was declared about half way through a jury trial May 15th in a case against Davdrin Goffin relating to a case of alleged burglary.  The judge ruled that items of evidence were not available to the defense during the discovery process.

In a telephone interview with Assistant Prosecutor Dave Cason, salineriverchronicle.com was told that two separate case files existed relating to Mr. Goffin: one, which was the subject of the jury trial involving burglary chargers and another file dealing with a shooting incident.  During the trial the defense claimed that documents int he shooting file were referenced but copies had not been previously provided to them.  while this amounts to a technical matter, the judge felt the information should have been made available or not referred to.

According to Mr. Cason, the case will be retried beginning on July 10, the earliest date available.

The burglary case was originally investigated by the Warren Police Department and after the shooting incident, both the burglary and the shooting were worked by the Arkansas State Police.  The shooting involving a Warren Police Officer, was ruled legal in accordance with law.
