Over 1000 Acres Burned and the Wildfire is Still Going

Arkansas Forestry Commission drops water from the air trying to contain
the forest fire.
Flames leap above the tree tops.
As the winds picked up Tuesday, the wildfire which had been mostly under control on Tuesday, rekindled.  As the sun set Wednesday, Arkansas Forester John Murphy told salineriverchronicle.com on the site that the fire had already burned approximately 1000 acres.  The Arkansas Forestry Commission was working hard to contain the fire and keep it from jumping the Smyrna Road.  They bulldozed fire breaks and battled the blazes from the air and on the ground.  Standing by to help was the Bradley County Rural Fire Department.  Sheriff Rick Anders was on hand along with many others to do their part to keep the effort rolling to extinguish the fire.  At sunset, the winds had not subsided and the fire was still crackling and rolling above the tree tops and through the arid underbrush.  At this time, the crews have been able to keep it from jumping across the Smyrna Road.
Forestry Commission crews, television stations, and County law enforcement
are on the scene hoping the fire does not cross Smyrna Road.

Commission dozers clear fire breaks.

The smoke was so thick it filtered the sunlight where the naked eye
could look at it.

Dry dusty conditions made the work difficult for crews.
