State Drug Czar Retires


Fran Flenner who has served as the State of Arkansas' "Drug Czar" for the past 7 years has retired effective July 31st.  Ms. Flenner was appointed by Governor Beebe and according to all accounts did a great job working with the law enforcement and drug rehabilitation communities.

Her retirement event was conducted at the Arkansas State Police Headquarters in Little Rock and was well attended by state and federal officals as well as friends from all over Arkansas.  Included were Chiefs of Police, Sheriffs, State Police, DEA and at least one United States Attorney.  Among the Police Chiefs present was Warren Chief Randy Peek.

Chief Peek informed SRC that Ms. Flenner had worked closely with the Warren Police Department to help combat illegal drug useage and was instrumental in drawing attention to prescription  drug abuse.  She was responsible for drug take back boxes being placed in the Warren Police Department at the City Emergency Services Center and the Bradley County Sheriffs office.

Ms. Flenner will be replaced by Mr. Steve Varady.
