City Council Conducts Monthly Business

The Warren City Council met Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Court Room for their regular March meeting.  All aldermen were present.  After approving the minutes of the February 9 meeting and the City Clerk's report, the council, mayor, and others gathered recognized Mrs. Helen Boswell, executive secretary to Mayor Bryan Martin for recently being named Employee of the Year at the Annual Bradley County Chamber of Commerce Gala.

In Mayor Martin's report to the council he recognized Donna Lawhon who gave the BCEDC report to the council.  Mayor Martin called to the attention of the aldermen that he had emailed the city's annual report to each of them.  He also presented a Joint-use Agreement which they approved to identify the responsibilities for maintenance on the John Scobey Drive Park and Multipurpose Facility as part of the Joint-use Grant in which the city and county entered into recently.  Mayor Martin reminded the council that these grants were in conjunction with the school district and were being paid for out of the Tobacco Tax.  He also informed that council that he was reappointing Tommy Burrow  to the Board of Adjustment and Appeals for a five-year term and W.T. Outlaw to the Planning Commission for a three-year term.

Fire Chief Howard Edwards presented his monthly report to the council and the council approved Jonathan R. Smith as a volunteer fireman.  Other reports presented to the council included Sanitation and Building reports.  During those reports council inquired on progress of condemned properties.  The Street Foreman Ricky Joe Davis gave a report which indicated that as of late the department has been busy with the icing and is now dealing with the potholes and aftermath of the winter storms.

Mayor Martin told the council that the weather has also hindered progress on the Shooting Range and that the utilities around the bypass project is 65% complete.  The utilities project is expected to be complete by July 1.

Alderman Tolefree told the council and mayor that he had heard complaints from hospital workers of property just south of the employee parking lot.

In other business, the council voted to accept the low bid of $691.90 from Kyle Wagnon mowing for mowing and weed eating of the parks and recreation facilities.

Alderman Zack Burks restated his position which he made known last month that he wants to see the Housing Authority hire security.

Alderman Dorothy Henderson announced that a Job Fair will be held in Warren April 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church.
