Flooding Could Continue Moro Bay Closure Through Spring Break

Moro Bay State Park has been temporarily closed due to flooding since Monday.

The entrance road to the Park covered by flowing water.
Water is coming over the roads preventing access to the Visitor Center, Camping Area, Ferry Exhibit, Playgrounds, Trails, and Day use area.   The river level as of Thursday morning at Moro Bay State Park is 85.80 ft.   According to the National Weather Service prediction at Thatcher Lock and Dam (the lock 11 miles upriver from the park) the river will crest here tomorrow at around 86ft.  "We may see additional rainfall, but since the river has fallen about a foot and a half at Camden since Tuesday I don't think the rain we received recently and are receiving  today will have much of an effect on this crest prediction," said Park Superintendent Paul Butler.   "Unfortunately it is unlikely that will we be able to reopen the park until the end of spring break or later," he stated.  Park officials are calling and canceling cabin and camping guest 7 days in advance until the river level recedes.   Butler said, "I plan to reopen the park when the river gets down to 83.5 ft but it is unclear at this point when that will be."
