Hermitage Faces Four And A Half Make Up Days

Due to snowy and icy weather, the Hermitage School District currently faces making up 4 1/2 make up days of school.  According to Dr. Tracy Tucker, Superintendent of the District, she is unsure at this time just how the days can be made up.  Recent legislation passed by the Arkansas General Assembly makes provision for the time being made up by a number of hours per day but Dr. Tucker is not sure that will work in a practical manner due to sports and the fact the school calendar has already been set.  She will continue to review the options and keep the board informed.

Dr. Tucker and the board spent some time congratulating members of the staff and board for receiving awards during the recent Bradley County Chamber of Commerce Gala as well as commending students for success in academic competition.

FFA students presented a program outlining their recent awards.

Reports were given by the elementary and high school principals the board voted to grant the superintendent authority to dispose of surplus equipment.  Board policy changes were also approved.

The board reviewed the monthly and year to date finances and discussed efforts to save as much as possible of funds available as a result of refinancing a bond issue.

Following an executive session the board returned and took the
following actions:
1. Accepted the resignations of Princella Davis, Diane McNiece and Julia Simpson.
2. Voted to hire part-time help for summer floor waxing and mowing.
3. Voted to increase the salary schedule for the position of migrant aide to $9.50 per hour for up to one years experience and $10.00 per hour for one or more years of experience.
4. Voted to authorize the superintendent to act upon personnel items discussed in executive session that have budget implications for the 2015-2016 school year.
