SouthArk approved for Act 1280

EL DORADO—The Arkansas Department of Higher Education has recognized South Arkansas Community College as an approved provider of digital learning in fulfillment of the stipulations of Act 1280, an act that requires all high school students in Arkansas to complete at least one digital course before graduation.
“SouthArk has for some time offered high school students the ability to take concurrent courses through the college (for college credit)” student services vice president Dr. Jim Bullock said. “This new approval makes the taking of those courses now possible via online delivery as well.”
Among the advantages of taking concurrent courses in high school, Bullock said, are the ability to get an early start on postsecondary education, taking those courses at a tuition rate that is considerably lower than after high school, and now, the convenience of digital delivery while complying with this new mandate from the state at the same time.
SouthArk is partnering with school districts throughout its official service area of Ashley, Chicot, Bradley and Union Counties to provide online coursework in accordance with the regulation. For more information about concurrent courses at SouthArk, call vice president of learning Dr. Mickey Best at (870) 864-7155.
