Chamber Board Discusses Numerous Activities

The Bradley County Chamber of Commerce Board meet for it's April meeting on the 13th at Simple Simon's Pizza.  Board Chairman Mike Nichols presided.  The board reviewed the financial report and welcomed Derek Grice as a new board member.  Mr. Grice works for First State Bank.

Chamber President David King provided updates on the Downtown Network and the Pink Tomato Festival.  He informed the board that plans are underway to conduct a gun and knive show in Warren and that work is underway to put up a sign at the former ortho-flex building on West Central Street.  The building is 88,000 square feet and is owned by the City of Warren.  It is being made available to businesses and industry that desire space in the facility to operate a business including industrial production.  Interested individuals or companies should contact Mayor Bryan Martin or the Chamber or BCEDC.

There was a lengthy discussion about the Bryant Building located on Main Street that now belongs to the Chamber.  Three options are being investigated:
1. Remodel the entire 17,000 square feet.  It will be very costly.  Funds are being sought.
2. Tear down the south half, which is in the worst condition, and remodel the north half.
3. Tear down the entire building, leaving the facade and show rooms and utilize the site for
    parking or other purposes.
A committee may be appointed to review the options and the cost while grants are being sought.

Mr. King reported that funds are in hand to help repair the Railroad Depot and it is hopeful work will move forward in the not too distant future.

Dorothy Henderson gave a detailed report on plans for the Job Fair to be conducted Thursday April 16th beginning at 10:00 A.M.
