Warren Forward to Offer Main Street Mini Grants

The Warren Forward Downtown Network met Thursday, June 25 at Golden Girls.

The group heard a report about the progress on renovation plans and fundraising for the W&OV Depot.  They also heard about the assessment to be conducted on the Bryant's Building concerning asbestos.  The discussed possible gofundme.com accounts to help raise revenue.  Donna Lawhon reported that they are looking at possible grants to assist in the efforts.  David King told the group that the cash that has been received and committed are being held for possible matching grants.

It was reported that a meeting is scheduled with building owners in the area of town designated at the Downtown Historic District.  Ralph Wilcox will be in attendance to discuss benefits to the property owners, especially tax cuts.  The majority in the district will have to agree in order to make this district official.  Mr. King told the group that EAST student Samantha Satterlee had been a "real go getter" in gathering the names of all the business owners in the area.

The group was informed that $1000 has been awarded to them for the purpose of issuing Main Street mini grants.  The committee decided to allow businesses to apply for funds in any amount up to $1000.  They will then determine if they will give one grant of $1000 or several smaller grants.  They further determined that the focus of the grants should be for building facades including signage. These grants will be matching one to one grants.

It was noted that the Downtown Conference for Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi will be held September 14-16 in Little Rock.  Members were encouraged to attend.

Mr. King introduced Vicky McDougald to the group and informed them that she is joining Warren Forward parttime at the Chamber to assist in fundraising and grant writing.
