Woman's Club Celebrates Culmination of Fitness Area Project

Members of the Woman's Club celebrate the culmination of the outdoor fitness area project.
Following their regular monthly meeting for February which was held in the home of Mrs. JeNelle Lipton, the members of the Warren Woman's Club visited the Outdoor Fitness area at the Warren City Park to celebrate the culmination of the project.

The proposal to install the equipment first began in 2014.  Club member Diane Purvis was previously reported in salineriverchronicle.com saying that the idea came to her while spending time at a park with her five-year old grandson.  She thought the park needed more activities for adults.  She indicated that part of the purpose of the installation of the equipment was to fight the obesity epidemic.
Members of the Woman's Club check out the equipment following their monthly meeting.

The entire project was estimated to cost around $12,000.00.  The Woman's Club donated $5000.00, and the City of Warren through an appropriation by the City Council of $7000.00.

Groundbreaking for the area was held Tuesday, October 6, 2015. The equipment has been installed and the area around it has been prepared for its use.

The workout area is located in the park between two sections of the walking track which is highly used by the community.  It is easily accessed from the Depot parking lot on Cedar Street.  The area is already drawing people to utilize this wonderful addition to the park.
