Industrial Development Group Buys Signs/Approves Conference Attendance

During the monthly meeting of the Bradley County Economic Development Commission's June, 26th monthly meeting, the board voted to purchase signs for the industrial sites and to send Executive Director Donna Lawhon to the annual conference of Arkansas Economic Developers to be held August 28-30th.  The motion included purchasing a membership in the Economic Developers organization

In another vote the BCEDC Board voted to sponsor a breakfast for the staff of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.  The purpose is to promote the area for job prospects.

Another vote approved the installation of a new sign for the City Industrial Park on U. S. Highway 278 ByPass and a sign for the industrial site on State Highway 189 ByPass, often referred to as the Griggs property.  The signs will list the businesses located in the city park as well as available buildings and the fact that industrial sites are ready for construction.  Contact information will be included.  The total cost for both signs will be around $2000.00.

Board members then voted to buy a $150.00 ad for the Bradley County Fair & Livestock Show.

A presentation was given by South Arkansas Community College of El Dorado providing information about the college and the programs available to assist workers and industry relating to training.  On hand to speak were Dr. Barbara Jones, President of South Arkansas Community College, Dr. Mickey Best, Vice President of Learning, Sherry Howard, Dean of Workforce & Continuing Education and Donald Lee, Advanced Manufacturing Instructor.  All four talked about the need to educate an industrial workforce and ways the school is wiling to work with companies to teach the skills needed by the businesses to help them secure prepared and motivated workers.

South Arkansas College currently teaches nursing courses at the Brunson Medical Complex on North Bragg Street in Warren and is capable of teaching other courses and subjects as needed at the same location.
