Arkansas Game and Fish Commission approves grant for the Warren Shooting Range

State Representative Jeff Wardlaw was notified by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission that during the February 2012 meeting of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, commissioners approved the use of up to $500,000 to fund 8 Wildlife Recreation Facilities Program grant projects. Of that amount, $70,282 was awarded to partially fund a shooting range in Warren. The money for the program comes from the AGFC’s gas lease revenue.

“I am really pleased that our grant was recommended by the Arkansas Department of Rural Services and confirmed by the Game and Fish. The Warren Shooting Range will include a three-station skeet and trap range which will attract many people to our area.”

These facilities program grants are a result of Act 687 of the 2009 session of the Arkansas General Assembly. Cities, counties, state agencies and nonprofit groups were eligible for the program.

The purpose of the grant program is to construct wildlife recreation facilities including, and without limitation to, the development of community ponds, shooting ranges, community fishing and access areas for fishing. These projects should attract tourists for the enjoyment and utilization of wildlife sports including hunting and fishing.
