Industrial Development Organization Hears From SEACBEC

SEACBEC Director Jonalyn Reep and several members of her facility were on hand for the board meeting of the Bradley County Economic Development Commission March 5th.  Director Reep and members of her staff talked about the things they have learned from local industry relating to the direction education needs to move in order to train a productive work force that benefits the employees and the companies. The SEACBEC personnel spent time discussing what and how they teach and seeking input from the local business community.  The discussion revolved around improving current manufacturing workers and preparing students to be able to secure and keep jobs once they enter the work force.  It was pointed out that jobs are available in Warren and manufacturing jobs can provide good well paying careers.

There was a discussion about ways to get younger students better acquainted with industrial and manufacturing jobs.  Ideas such as intern programs and some type summer camp were mentioned.  Several people in attendance thought getting parents involved would help.  SEACBEC staff stated that image, perception and attitude are vital to making improvements in the workforce.

In other business the board approved the monthly financial report and voted to advertise the newsletter job chart once a month.  Several new board members were elected.  Elected to fill vacancies were: Clint Horn, Hugh Allen Quimby, Boyce Hamlet, Marsha Cooper, Gary Harrison, and Tracy Savage.

In response to community request the board voted to contribute $25.00 to Junior Auxiliary and $150.00 to the 2015 Pink Tomato Festival Committee.
