The Single Parent Scholarship Board and District Director awarded a total of $3,700 in scholarship funds to six single parents Tuesday, at 4:00 p.m. in the administration room of the Warren School District.  Those who were awarded the scholarships introduced themselves and told families and friends of the recipients about the academic endeavors.

Jessica Jones is attending LPN school and expected to graduate in December 2015.  After completing her LPN degree, she plans to continue her education in pursuit of an RN degree.

Maria Cannon told the crowd that she is studying criminal justice and will complete her associate degree in April.  Her plans include continuing her education to earn a bachelor's degree.

Katrina Saunders is majoring in education/history and is on schedule to graduate in 2017.

Keesa Glen is working toward her two-year degree in Early Childhood.  She plans to reach this goal in December 2015 or possibly May 2016.

Kasey Fox told the group that she is double majoring in accounting and marketing.  She is on target to graduate in December 2015.

Staci Frisby is working on a degree in respiratory therapy with plans to graduate in May of 2018.

The award program began with incoming board chairman Fran Van Der Zwalm welcoming everyone and introducing Beverly Chapel, the District Director.  The board was introduced to the recipients.  They include Mrs, Van Der Zwalm, Tricia Wilkinson, Marsha Cooper, Emily Van Der Zwalm, and Marilyn Johnson.  They are all volunteers for this cause.

The Single Parent Scholarship program is a non profit organization.

The scholarships are open to both male and female single parents who have custody of their children.  The application process and forms are online.

The board works to raise funds for the program.  They match dollar for dollar funds that are donated.

It was noted that April 2 is the Arkansas Community Foundations Day of Giving.  Persons wishing to donate during 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. drive, patrons may use a debit or credit card to give to their favorite charities.  Persons wishing to donate the the Single Parent Scholarship should specify that the funds are for Bradley County.  The funds donated that day are doubled by matching funds.
