Rural Fire Department Responds to Call Tuesday

The Bradley County Rural Fire Department responded to a fire call Tuesday, March 31 at 4:15 p.m.  Upon arrival at 5:00, the firemen discovered a grass fire at 422 Bradley 16.  The land was owned by Wayburn Bolland and was used as crop or orchard land.  Mr. Bolland's son was moving an area that was previously used as a garden when a spark ignited the mower.  The mower was extinguished by the son with a bucket of water but when he moved the mower the fire ignited in the thick dry grass in the field.  The fire covered about an acre in the ten minutes it took the fire department to arrive.  The fire was fanned by a shifting wind but was extinguished before reaching the wooded area so no damage was done.  Five firemen responded to the fire.
