Warren Aviation Commission Looks To Expand Airport

Members of the Warren Aviation Commission meet Thursday March 26th at the Warren Municipal Building.  Vice Chairman John B. Frazer presided.

The Commission discussed amending the city ordinance that created the Commission .  Any amendments must be approved by ordinance adopted by the Warren City Council.  Changes to be recommended include terms of Commissioners, language to clarify the duties of the commission, allow the commission to retain a consulting engineer, require a Capital Improvement Plan based on five years, allow the commission to seek grants and empower the commission to represent the city before any state or federal authority having jurisdiction over operation of air transportation or public or private aircraft or airports. The ordinance would require at least quarterly meetings and allow more frequent ones.

The commission approved a motion to authorize the Warren Mayor to contact a surveyor and a land appraiser for the purpose of utilizing Arkansas Aeronautics grant funding to purchase additional acreage for the airport.

Other commissioners present were: Raymond Colen and Curtis Blankinship,Jr.  Commissioner Dr. J.H. Wharton was unable to attend.
