The council entertained a public comment from Mrs. Moore whose home is located at 1019 St. James on the corner St James and Henry Streets.  She indicated that her property has been flooding with the recent rains and that she desires the city to look at the drainage situation on her street.  Mayor Martin instructed Street Foreman Ricky Joe Davis to take a look at the property Tuesday morning to determine what could be done to help with this situation.

The aldermen received the BCEDC report given by Mrs. Donna Lawhon.  She was asked if she knew how many of the jobs at OMP were filled with Bradley County people.  She said she did not know an exact number but said most are from the county.

The council accepted the resignation of Bertia Mae Lassister as City Treasurer and approved Bob Milton to fill the vacancy.

Robert Anderson was re-appointed to the Fair Housing Commission for five years.

The council approved the closing of Main Street from Bond to Cedar February 6 in order to have a parade as part of the Mardi Gras celebration being planned by the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce.

The council was presented reports from the police department and fire department.  On January 5, the Civil Service Commission approved Antonio Lamar Harding as a volunteer fireman.  The council also voted to pay dues to the Southeast Arkansas Firefighters.

Mike May gave the Sanitation report and was encouraged to keep seeking additional avenues of recycling plastic and glass.  Mayor Martin noted that this is being studied by the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District which is comprised of ten counties.  The council reviewed progress on property cleanup and burned out house cleanup.

Street Foreman Ricky Joe Davis told the council that his department has been busy answering complaints, cleaning out ditches and repairing potholes due to recent rains.

It was determined that a street hearing will be held February 25 at 5:30 to consider streets for paving. The meeting will be held in the municipal courtroom.
