School Board Conducts Monthly Business

The Warren School Board met Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Administrative Office Building.

Principals and Assistant Superintendent gave their "minute messages."  High School Principal Bryan Cornish told the board that algebra, geometry and literacy grades 9 and 10 recently finished their NWEA testing.  He informed them that the installation of the new intercom system has been completed.  The new video message board has been installed in the cafeteria and awaits the installation of the program to control it. The next project at the high school will be the construction of an outside classroom.

Eastside New Vision Charter School Principal Sara Weaver informed the board that Tom Simmons of El Dorado chose Warren as the school to visit for innovative ideas in education above all other schools in the nation.  She announced that representatives from Crossett School District will be visiting the school on February 18.

At Brunson, a coach for the Leader in Me will be coming to discuss the Next Steps.  Principal Regina Scroggins reported that the students will begin taking Interim Tests to prepare for the ACT Aspire tests which will be given at the end of April.

At the Middle School, Principal Kathy Cornish announced the winner and runner up of the 46 round record setting spelling bee.  She also announced the winner of the Geography Bee who has qualified for state.  She noted that advisory clubs are going well and that ILP math and literacy us seeing improvement.

The members  were informed that P/T conferences were held at the elementary buildings Monday night and will be held at the High School and Middle School Thursday.  The testing calendar will be posted Wednesday.  She also told them that all juniors will be taking the ACT free March 1.

After returning from Executive Session, the board voted to approve the following hourly contracts:

Rusty Densmore-part-time construction/maintenance ($15 per hour) (10 hours per week) through June 30, 2016.

Mike Young, part-time construction/maintenance assistant ($10 per hour) (10 hours per week) through June 20, 2016.

The accepted the resignation of Rebecca Howard as Para-Pro at Brunson.

In other business, the board approved Legal Liability Insurance for the amount of $23,119.00 for the upcoming year; approved a resolution authorizing Amendment and Restatement of Retirement Plan through Valic, approved the purchase locally of a used truck in the amount of $6,900 to be used by the maintenance department to replace an old one, and to accept sealed bids on four old buses over 18 years old that are not currently in running condition.

Before adjourning, the board was informed that an expulsion will be considered February 16.
