Board Hires New Head Coaches for Basketball

The Warren School Board met Tuesday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Administrative Office of the District.  After approving the March 14 minutes, the board heard minute messages from the the building administrators updating the board on events in their buildings.  Following these reports, the board moved into executive session to consider personnel matters.  Board member Joel Tolefree gave a report on his trip to the NSBA Conference in Boston.

Upon returning from executive session the following personnel matters were approved by the board:

New contracts for the 2016-17 school year:
Joe Tyler Kell, Football Coach/Track
Jae Kell, Head Jr/Sr Girls Basketball Coach
Joshua Nix:  Head Jr/Sr Boys Basketball Coach/Off Season
Janet Surratt, JROTC-A1
Katy Bryant:  Asst. Food Director

Kitchen
Tiffany Domineck:  6 hour cook beginning April 13
Jannie Allen: increase hours from 5 1/2 to 6 hours

Resignations:
Chase Ellis, 9th grade Civics/Economics Teacher, Assistant Football Coach, Head Track Coach
Sandra Halley, Assistant Principal WMS
Ronda Best, KG Teacher ESNVCS
Tracy Panicola, Math/Algebra WHS

In other business, the board voted to amend the Public Comment Policy.  The change said that when a group with a single cause comes to the board that they need to choose a spokesperson to speak on behalf of the group.

Soccer concession stand under construction at former Axley Field

The board approved revisions of the student handbook and the audit report.  Jerry Daniels volunteered to represent the board on the Gray-Weiss Committee.  They also approved the financial report.  Mr. Acklin told the board that they had received an excellent audit report with only one finding which has been corrected.

In the Superintendent's report, Mr. Bobby Acklin told the board that he and the District Treasurer Debbie Hargrave have been working to revise the salary schedule  for the 2016-17 school year.  He said that they were also looking to find money for bonuses for this year.

He told the board that he should have a report soon on the cost of renovating the old adult ed building to create a place for the JROTC program.  He estimated this would be around $30,000 to $35,000.

He told the board that they opened bids turf project and it was close to expectations.

Mr. Acklin is in talks with a company about LED lighting.  The next phase will be an audit of the building followed by a presentation to the board.

The concession stand at the soccer field, a joint project with the city, is well underway.
