Board Approves Bonuses for Employees

The Warren School Board met Monday night in their regular monthly meeting.  After adopting me October 10 regular monthly meeting minutes and the October 24 Special Expulsion Hearing minutes, the board heard minute messages from the Building Principals and Assistant Superintendent.

High School Principal Bryan Cornish informed the board that 53% of the high school parents attended Parent/Teacher Conferences held on October 24 and that 200 from the community attended the Haunted High School.    He noted that MAP Testing for the fall is complete and that the teachers are looking forward to the scores.  Mr. Cornish announced that National Honor Society will host an induction December 7.  He also told them that the National Beta Society has sent a banner to the school recognizing 10% increase in competitions at the State Beta Convention.

The Middle School Principal Mrs. Kathy Cornish told the board about Learning Blade, a coding program in which the Middle School Students will be involved.  She also announced that two students earned All-Region Band Honors, four earned All Festival Honors, and three earned All Region Choir Honors.





Mrs. Regina Scroggins of Brunson told the board that Lawson Pilgrim had presented an anti-bullying program to students at Brunson and that the UAM Jazz Band will perform this week.  She noted that on November 19 teachers will be involved in training and that the honor roll has been released to local news sources.

Mrs. Sara Weaver told the board about activities in AXE time to help students improve reading. She informed them that the First Superhero Parent Night was held Monday night with more to follow each month.

SEACBEC Director Jonalyn Reep told the board about teachers attending Wage meetings and that the Book Fair brought in $4000.  The school will get to keep 25% which will be used to fund the NO TARDY PARTIES held each nine weeks.  She pointed out that ABC Preschool is holding "Feast With Friends or Relatives Week.

Assistant Superintendent Carla Wardlaw reported that the district is working with EAST students to prepare videos for students, parents, and staff concerning personalized learning.

The board moved into executive session.  Upon their return, they approved the following:
   Hiring Len Baylack as JROTC Instructor beginning Nov. 16, 2016
   Hiring Keesa Glenn as Parapro at Brunson
   Joanna Carpenter as ADED Parapro at SEACBEC
   Accepted the resignation of Ltc. Curtis Craft, Jr. as JROTC Instructor effective November 15, 2016.

The board then approved giving bonuses as follows:
   Certified employees will receive $400
   Classified employees will receive $300
Superintendent Acklin noted that these funds are already budgeted for and that it was their hope to get these out to the faculty and staff before they leave for Thanksgiving break.  He noted that they will take another look at funds in the spring to determine if a spring bonus was possible.

Superintendent Acklin told the board that he had visited with Mayor Bryan Martin and that they hoped to close on the Soccer facilities shortly.  He said an electrical issue inside had to be addressed, and that once it was closed upon, the city and school would receive $100,000 to split between them.

He updated the board on the recently ordered buses and noted that delivery date had been pushed back to January.

He reminded the board that an orange and black scrimmage game of the Lady Jacks was underway in the gym and that the Lumberjack football team will host Stuttgart Friday night at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium.

He said they will be looking at scheduling for a board workshop to discuss future ideas and that the final audit exit report will wrap up Tuesday.
